Call for Showcase Artists for CINARS 2014
FOLQUÉBEC SHOWCASE
at the CINARS Conference

On the occasion of the next CINARS conference to be held in Montreal from November 17 to 22, 2014, FOLQUÉBEC continues its commitment to maximising the visibility and influence of local artists on the national and international scene.
Association FOLQUÉBEC is a non-profit organization registered in Québec and dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of traditional, world and folk music and dance created in Québec.
FOLQUÉBEC invites artists to submit their applications to participate in the « Spotlight Quebec » showcase at the next CINARS. The jury will select three (3) artists per night to a maximum of 12 artists who will have the opportunity to play twenty (20) minutes in front of international presenters. This year, Folquébec proposes four showcases:
Tuesday, November 18; Wednesday, November 19; Thursday, November 20 and Friday, November 21 at the »Gesu – Centre de Créativité‘ from 8PM to 11PM at 1200, Bleury Street, Montreal, in the Quartier des Spectacles
What FOLQUÉBEC will do
· Provide advice and logistics support to assist the artists’ arrival
· Provide space for meetings and on-site promotion (stand)
· Provide showcase promotion by various means, including (web promotion, flyer / poster / invitation handouts on-site)
· Advises on the presence of national and international presenters and through its expertise and contacts advises the delegates and artists on networking
· Provides a promotional compilation including a song by each artist
What the artists will assume
· Individual promotion of their showcase through their networks (Myspace, Facebook, website, mailing lists, etc.)
· Create and distribute the individual as well as group promotional materials to distribute during the events
· Transportation, accommodation and per diem in Montreal
· Registration fee for the CINARS conference should they choose to attend, and the »showcase » cost of $750.

Your application must include:
1) Completed and signed registration form
2) A letter explaining why your application should be considered
3) A CD and, if available, a promotional video
4) Complete Promotional Kit: biography, CD, press releases, tech sheet, etc.
5) $20 application fee (check payable to Association Folquébec)
6) A Suggestion of two compositions for the jury’s delibaration and for the Folquébec Compilation
Selection Criteria
· Artistic Quality / originality
· Promotional tools’ quality
· Availability of the artist for the dates of the « showcase »
· Artists’ ability to tour Canada and the United States
· The relevance of the style in relation to the needs of presenters at the event
The final selection of artists will be representative of all folk musics made in Quebec (trad, folk, roots and world music) and / or depending on what is most relevant to the selection committee. Considering time constraints for the production of promotional materials(compilation and advertising), we will not consider incomplete applications and will not extend the application time.
